Jim Crowe
Learning Disability Wales (formerly SCOVO)
I am the Director of Learning Disability Wales, the umbrella body for all voluntary organisations actively working with or for people with learning disabilities in Wales. We used to be called SCOVO.
I have been Director for some twenty years. That’s a long time I know, but the organisation has changed a lot in that time and there are always new challenges. I really like working for something that I really believe in like the rights of disabled people. Before Learning Disability Wales, I worked for the Citizens’ Advice Bureau in Merseyside for 8 years in a variety of jobs.
In the past I have been on the management committee of a children’s adoption charity, chaired a county voluntary council and been a school governor. At the moment I am a trustee of All Wales People First as well as a supported employment agency and a supported living provider.
I studied at Aberystwyth and have a MA in Welsh History. I am passionate about all things Irish or Celtic. I try to keep fit and play 5-a-side football. I also enjoy watching football and rugby, and drinking the odd glass of good wine! I am learning French and enjoy watching European films at Chapter in Cardiff.
I am married, have two sons who live in London and no longer cost me anything, and a daughter in Dublin who does!
