Mike Kerr
Head of Health Sub-group

The Health sub-group aims to advise the LDIAG on important issues about the health of people with a learning disability in Wales. Our work has focused on the following broad areas:

  • Advising the LDIAG on the progress of the Health Checks for adults with a learning disability. This has included a link with the Welsh National Public Health Service to monitor the uptake of Health Checks in order to identify differences across Wales.

  • Exploring the distribution of therapy services across Wales. A national survey of therapy services has been performed and we await the final analysis of this data.

  • Advising the LDIAG on the use of “Health Passports”. The group has analysed the potential benefits of Health Passports in improving the experience of people with a learning disability who go into hospital.

  • Production of a report to the Chief Medical Officer on the use of PEG feeding to people across Wales. Led by Mr Ian Ferris, the great difficulties and variation in the administration of PEG feeding has been brought to the attention of the CMO and Minister for Health.
