The Challenging Behaviour and Mental Health sub-group of the LDIAG was established to provide a forum for discussing the issues that affect people with learning disabilities who have additional behavioural or psychological needs. The group generally meets when there is a specific task that needs to be addressed rather than on an on-going basis. Its membership also varies according to the nature of the work that needs to be done. To date, achievements include:
- The production of a Self-Assessment Checklist for Monitoring Services for People with Learning Disability and Challenging Behaviour
- The launch of the Checklist in two highly successful conferences in North and South Wales in 2009, attended by over 150 people from across the whole spectrum of services.
- Contributing to the review of secure services in Wales.
- Producing the technical document that was included in the Welsh Government consultation on the future of private hospitals in Wales (and which led to a change in the regulations governing the development of these services).
- Developing a paper on mental health services for people with a learning disability.
- In conjunction with NHLIAH, the development of a national Community of Practice for people interested in supporting people who challenge.
